Somatic Tools for Release: Gentle Ways to Let Trauma Energy Move

Trauma energy often gets “stuck” in the body—tight chest, clenched jaw, frozen limbs. Gentle somatic release helps it move without forcing. At Mindful Connections LLC, these tools invite discharge with safety and self-compassion.

Five Somatic Release Practices

  1. Trembling/Shaking — Stand, shake arms/legs gently (like a wet dog). Let body tremble 30–60 seconds. This discharges sympathetic arousal.

  2. Progressive Muscle Release — Tense a muscle group (fists, shoulders) for 5 seconds, then release with a sigh. Move head to toes.

  3. Body Tapping — Lightly tap arms, legs, torso while breathing deeply. Stimulates energy flow and safety cues.

  4. Stretch & Release — Gentle neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, forward folds. Exhale on release.

  5. Orienting to the Room — Slowly turn head, scan environment. Name safe objects. This completes defensive orienting.

Safety First Stop if anything feels overwhelming. Return to grounding (feet on floor). Go slow—small movements count.

Integrating Emotional & Spiritual Elements Add naming (“This energy protected me; now it can release”) and spiritual gratitude (“Thank you, body, for carrying me”). This honors the wisdom in survival.

Your body is ready to let go when it feels safe. These tools are invitations—gentle, patient, kind. For support exploring what feels right for you, book a free consultation at Mindful Connections LLC.
